Recent Publications

Now Offered at all

Maine Libraries

The Post Polio Support Group of Maine has purchased several books to offer all Mainers an opportunity to read current and helpful information about post-polio syndrome.  Some of these contain detailed medical information, one is a personal insight story, and one is a fictional account.  The professionals compiling the medical information offer their viewpoints which may not always agree with others, but we wanted to offer you a range of books from qualified individuals in their fields.   They are situated at the Brunswick Public library and may be obtained by contacting your local library, which will get them for you.  The books are:

· The Polio Paradox                         by Dr. Richard Bruno

· Post-Polio Syndrome                     by Dr. Julie Silver

· Managing Post-Polio                     by Dr. Lauro Halstead

· The Official Patient’s Source Book on Post-Polio Syndrome                            by Drs. James and Philip Parker

· Living, Laughing and Loving Life                                           by Dan Miller

· Nana Needs a Nap                         by Beryl Baker

In brief…

—In Memoriam—

We are saddened to report the passing of two long time Board of Directors Members who died within weeks of each other in September.

John McGonnagle, from South Portland, was co-leader of the Southern Maine regional support group and a former Director of PPSGM. A retired instructor with the telephone company in Massachusetts and a lifelong NY Yankees fan, his insight and perceptive intellect were invaluable. Bob Philbrook, from Portland, was one of the original founders of our organization and a long-term Director. He built a career of helping others and always reminded us to stay focused on the needs of our constituents. We will miss their ready smiles, their contributions to our group, and especially their friendship, and pass our heartfelt condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues.X
